Live Translate Browser Extension · Privacy Policy

1. General

The Live Translate browser extension (the "Extension") provides webpage translation, video subtitle translation, and click-to-translate. This policy describes what data the Extension collects, uses, and shares.

2. Data we collect

The Extension only collects the following data, and only to enable translation:

  • Authentication info: the JWT token obtained after sign-in, stored locally in chrome.storage.local.
  • Text snippets you actively translate: when you click "Translate" or enable auto-translate, the Extension sends webpage or video subtitle text snippets to the translation backend.
  • Local translation cache: to avoid duplicate requests, translation results (source + target) are cached locally in your browser for 7 days then auto-expire. Cache stays on your device and is not sent to any server.
  • User settings: target language, bilingual style, BYO Key, site rules, etc., stored locally in chrome.storage.local.

3. Data we do NOT collect

  • Page cookies / localStorage / sessionStorage
  • Form input (unless you actively select it as translation text)
  • Browsing history / full URLs (only the current domain, to power "Always translate" rules)
  • Location / device / any personally identifying information
  • Passwords, payment info, identity info

4. Data sharing

When the translation service is set to "Live Translate":

  • Text snippets + JWT token are sent to https://live.bitbeam.cn/api/extension/translate
  • The backend calls upstream LLM services. After translation, we do not store source or target text (only character counts are recorded for billing audit).

When the translation service is set to "BYO Key" (OpenAI / Claude / Gemini / DeepSeek, etc.):

  • Text snippets + your API Key go directly from the browser to the chosen provider
  • Our backend is bypassed — we never touch your text or your Key

5. Transport security

All translation requests are HTTPS-encrypted. The Extension never sends data over the network in plaintext.

6. Retention and deletion

  • Local data (token / settings / translation cache): clear via "Clear cache" / "Reset settings" / Sign out in the Extension's options.
  • Uninstalling the Extension clears all local data.
  • Server-side account data: sign in to live.bitbeam.cn account settings to delete your account and associated records.

7. Third-party services

Depending on your choice, data may flow to the following third parties:

  • Our backend (live.bitbeam.cn) — default translation path
  • The LLM provider you select in BYO Key mode: OpenAI / Anthropic / Google AI Studio / DeepSeek / Alibaba DashScope / MiniMax / Zhipu / Moonshot

8. Children's privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Policy updates

Material updates will be reflected in the effective date on this page and announced via the Extension's update notice.
