What is Live Translate? How is it different from other translation tools?
Live Translate is an AI translation platform with four parts: 1) Real-time meeting interpretation — mix English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese in one meeting with no language switching, subtitles line by line; 2) Large-document translation — upload a PDF hundreds of pages long (up to 500 pages) with the layout largely untouched, plus Excel sheets up to 30 MB; 3) Browser extension (Chrome Web Store) — bilingual web pages, YouTube/Netflix/Bilibili/iQiyi/Tencent Video subtitles, click-to-translate, with an option to bring your own LLM key; 4) AI meeting minutes and audio file transcription. What sets it apart: mixed-language meetings without switching, colloquial Cantonese normalised before translating, and one glossary shared by meetings and documents.
What does the browser extension do? Which video sites are supported?
Live Translate browser extension (Chrome / Edge / Brave / any Chromium) does three things: 1) One-click bilingual web translation, source + translation side by side without breaking page layout. Optimized for Hacker News / Reddit / Twitter / GitHub / Medium / dev.to / Stack Overflow; 2) Real-time video subtitle translation on YouTube, Netflix, Bilibili, iQiyi, Tencent Video — auto-detects original subtitles and shows bilingual overlay; 3) Selection translate via small dot or hotkey. Which languages are supported? Does Cantonese really work?
17 languages to choose from: Cantonese, Mandarin, English, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Vietnamese, Thai, Arabic, Hindi and Turkish. Leave the source on auto-detect and English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese can be mixed in one meeting without switching. Cantonese is recognized as Cantonese rather than forced through Mandarin, and colloquial words like 頭先 / 嘅 / 係 are normalised into written form before translating.
How large a document can I translate?
A PDF can be up to 500 pages and is uploaded whole, with the layout largely untouched; in our tests a document of 300-plus pages finished in about 20 minutes. You get a translated version and a bilingual side-by-side version. Excel (.xlsx / .xlsm) files can be up to 30 MB and 2 million characters, with formulas and charts kept. PDFs cost 1 credit per page, charged only when the translation finishes — failures cost nothing. Scanned or encrypted PDFs are not supported.
Can I transcribe an existing audio file?
Yes. When creating a meeting, switch to "Upload audio" mode and drop in mp3 / wav / m4a. A bilingual full transcript with timestamps is ready in a few minutes, so you can jump back to any original sentence.
What if specialized terminology / internal jargon is mistranslated?
Before the meeting, go to "Glossary" and click "Generate from documents". Upload your agenda PPT / tech docs / talking points. AI extracts proper nouns (brands, names — kept as-is in translation) and term pairs (industry words with standard translations). Review, save as a glossary, and pick that glossary when creating a meeting. Real-time translation will follow your terminology, and term hits are highlighted in subtitles so you can see AI is using them.
What if I miss a line during the meeting?
Tap "Ask about this" next to the line, or "Missed it?" at the bottom, to ask what it meant, what the last few minutes were about, or whether the translation is right. Answers come only from this meeting and point out lines that may have been misheard or mistranslated. It does not interrupt the meeting; 1 credit per answer, charged only if answered.
How does pricing work?
1 credit ≈ 1 minute of translation. Charged by actual recording duration (paused time does not count). New users get 60 minutes free on signup. Larger packs unlock lower per-minute pricing — Standard/Pro packs default to 50-70% off.
What if my balance runs out mid-meeting?
You get a warning 3 minutes before zero, then a 60-second grace period at zero. Top up during the grace period and the meeting continues seamlessly. Even if cut off, the transcript and AI minutes generated so far are fully saved.
Can my clients see my translation subtitles?
Yes. Every meeting can generate a "live audience page" link. Clients open it in their phone browser (or WeChat) and see bilingual real-time subtitles. You can set a password and expiry, or invalidate the link any time.
Does it work on mobile / WeChat?
Yes. live.bitbeam.cn is the web app — open it in WeChat's built-in browser to start recording and translating. No App download, no public account follow needed.
